Versatile Venues: London's Top 7 Blank Canvas Spaces

22 August 2019

For ultimate event flexibility and creativity, you need a space you can really make your mark on – a venue where you can set the atmosphere, layout and design.

Blank canvas venues are deal for a huge range of events, from branded awards ceremonies, conferences or private dining events to sleek, unfussy product launches, photoshoots or press events.

London has some of the best blank canvas venues in the world, with spaces and specifications to suit everyone – let us walk you through our seven favourites.

1. The Yard, Shoreditch

A versatile blank canvas venue in the heart of fashionable Shoreditch, The Yard is a stunning Victorian warehouse redesigned as an airy, contemporary events venue.

Its flexible space, impressive spec and great location (within easy walking distance of Liverpool Street and Old Street underground stations) make it an ideal venue for fashion shows, product launches, exhibitions and branded events – recent clients have included Marks and Spencer, Sweaty Betty and Perrier.

2. Printworks London, Southwark

Printworks London isn’t the most central venue on our list, but it might be the highest impact. Once home to the largest printing facility in Western Europe, it reopened in 2017 as an unforgettable events venue.

The industrial aesthetic, giant printing presses and machinery are all still here, creating a high-impact backdrop for events. It’s soundproofed too (a hangover from when the presses here ran 24/7, 365 days a year), so you can go to town. And the space is big – able to accommodate 600 – 2500 people.

3. Weston Roof Pavilion, Southbank Centre

The big sell for the Royal Festival Hall’s Weston Roof Pavilion is its incredible views, taking in the Thames, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the city skyline.

But it’s a great blank canvas venue inside too – a self-contained riverside space for up to 220 guests with its own enclosed rooftop courtyard and a terrace. Ideal for drinks receptions, networking, parties and conferences, just steps from Waterloo’s mainline and underground stations. (Image © Victor Frankowski 2016, used here with permission. 4. Icetank, Covent Garden

Icetank is a dream – a blank canvas venue blending crisp Scandinavian architecture, floor-to-ceiling windows and contemporary interiors.

There’s substance as well as style here too – 171 sq. m of space across two levels, and in-house amenities including Wi-Fi, PA system, screen & projector ideal for presentations and live streaming, and a large infinity curve wall (ideal for brand projections or green screen productions). A great option for press events, product launches, networking events and parties.

5. Royal Horticultural Halls, Westminster

The Royal Horticultural Halls are two large period venues in central London owned by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

Lawrence Hall is a striking, memorable events venue (recently used as a filming location in the BBC’s Killing Eve). The space is dripping with unique art-deco details, and boasts a stunning vaulted ceiling, allowing events to benefit from some real architectural impact.

Lindley Hall is another beautiful historic space with a dramatic glass vaulted ceiling and a range of slick modern facilities, including a great AV offering.

6. The Great Gallery, Tobacco Dock, Wapping

Tobacco Dock is up there with the capital’s most popular events venues, and it’s easy to see why. The Great Gallery is one of London’s largest spaces for conferences and dinners, and while it’s a blank canvas venue, it’s got some real character, with aged timber beams and listed brickwork.

The space can accommodate around 1500 with theatre-style seating, or 1000 for sit-down dining, and you also get access to the Great Gallery Courtyard.

7. Noho Studios, Fitzrovia

Only a two-minute walk from Oxford Circus, Noho Studios is Central London’s self-proclaimed ‘most versatile blank canvas events and exhibition space’ – and they might just be onto something.

Set in a former West End umbrella factory, Noho Studios offers up to 260 sq. m of open-plan, super-flexible events space across two floors. White walls, white brick arches and high ceilings make this a true blank canvas, ideally suited to product launches, press events, dinners, exhibitions, receptions, presentations and more.
