6 March 2018

2017 was an amazing year for new London hotels, with openings including heavyweight The Ned, Soho House-beater The Curtain (from the owner of NYC’s Gansevoort Hotel), The Henrietta from Paris’s Experimental Group, and the 150-bedroom Nobu Shoreditch.

This year promises to be even more spectacular, with a whole crop of headline-grabbing new London hotels throwing open their doors and rolling out the red carpet for guests (literally, in some cases).

Ideal for events, incentives or respite after long working days, let’s take a look at our ones to watch – six new London hotels for 2018…

L’oscar, Holborn

Opening: Spring ‘18

Called 'London's sexiest new hotel' by CN Traveller, L'oscar is the first London hotel decked out by the godfather of theatrical luxury interiors, Jacques Garcia.

This pick of 2018’s new London hotels occupies a Grade II-listed former Baptist Church close to Holborn and, like hotels bearing Garcia’s stamp across the world (Paris's Hôtel Costes, La Mamounia in Marrakech, New York's NoMad), promises to be sumptuous and atmospheric. In-house restaurant ‘The Baptist’ will be unforgettable too, with diners sitting directly under the chapel's octagonal dome.

White City House, White City

Opening: April ‘18

We can’t talk new London hotels without mentioning Soho House's new project in the redeveloped BBC Television Centre. Soho House are back to doing what they do best – delivering a superb, super-trendy boutique hotel with just 45 rooms, all located in Television Centre's iconic central ring.

Expect the usual extras – a spa, club space and a small but perfectly formed cinema, along with the essential Soho House rooftop pool - always an optimistic move on the Costa del London...

The Principle, Russell Square

Opening: April ‘18

New London hotels don’t get more impressive than The Principle – a remodelling of the landmark Russell Hotel on Bloomsbury's Russell Square that will breathe new life into the capital’s most under-appreciated Grande Dame.

The hotel, first opened in 1898, will offer 334 rooms that pair sleek, contemporary interiors with the hotel’s marble, brass and glass to conjure a timeless sense of indulgence and glamour.

The Standard London, King's Cross

Opening: Summer ‘18

One of 2018's best new London hotels, the first Standard hotel outside America is a five-star redevelopment of brutalist former Camden Council offices. It includes the remodelling of the building's top floors in glass and steel to house rooms, suites, events spaces, a guests’ lounge and observatory.

The location is hard to beat too – steps from St Pancras International and King's Cross and Euston mainline stations, overlooking the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

Vintry & Mercer, City of London

Opening: Spring ‘18

Vintry & Mercer, sister hotel to Kensington's Ampersand Hotel, opens this spring in the heart of the Square Mile, close to the river and nestled between the City's historic Guilds and livery halls.

The hotel will boast 92 rooms and suites, and three exceptional restaurants – book the Mercer Roof Terrace restaurant for full-height windows offering views over St Paul's and the South Bank, or head for an atmospheric nightcap at speakeasy-style basement cocktail bar DND.

Manhattan Loft Gardens Design Hotel, Stratford

Opening: TBC 2018

The Manhattan Loft Gardens Design Hotel is the new hotel from the Manhattan Loft Corporation – the company best known in London for remodelling the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. They're about to make big waves with this seven-storey, 150-room hotel – one of the year's most exciting new London hotels.

The lower floors of a 42-storey mixed-use development overlooking Stratford's Olympic Park, architects SOM (the team behind Dubai's Burj Khalifa) have designed a building offering leisure, pool and spa facilities, and spectacular sky gardens.
