Spotlight on... Incentives in St Petersburg
27 November 2017
St Petersburg is full of surprises. This inviting, vibrant city was Russia’s capital until 1917. Today it feels European and cosmopolitan, arranged across islands interlaced with rivers, canals and bridges – hence its nickname ‘the Venice of the North’.
It’s a city of outstanding hotels, weird and wonderful activities and 24hr daylight during the legendary White Nights of summer, when long days relaxing in the sun flow seamlessly into buzzing nights of parties, canal cruises and a special kind of magic.
St Petersburg incentives are unforgettable. Let’s take a closer look at planning an incentive trip to Russia’s second city.

Where to Go & What to Do
St Petersburg has a buzz about it year-round – but to see it at its best you need to visit in the few short weeks of the White Nights, the midsummer evenings between May and July when the sun never quite sets on the city.
Here are our top things to do during St Petersburg incentives:
Travel in style:
- Hire classic soviet cars and a police escort for transfers from the airport
- Book an exhilarating ride in a traditional ‘troika’ horse carriage
- Head out of the city for white water rafting or a military jeep safari through the black forest
- Take a traditional Russian steam train out to the Tsar’s opulent Pushkin estate
Hit the water: They don’t call it ‘The Venice of the North’ for nothing. A cruise during the White Nights, with the grand bridges lit up and the quiet backwaters rippling with midnight light, is a once-in-a-lifetime memory.
Culture vultures: The Stars of the White Nights festival between May and July is an annual highlight, when the Mariinsky Theatre puts on world-class concerts and ballet. The city also boasts iconic museums, galleries, palaces and churches (the Hermitage, Peter and Paul Fortress, Russian Museum, the Church on Spilled Blood, St Isaac’s Cathedral and more), including some incredible venues for private drinks receptions and tours.
Get weird: Visit the Russian Vodka Museum for an afternoon of vodka tasting followed by dinner, or head for Russkaya Rybalka – a charming fish restaurant overhanging a lake, which provides guests with the bait, tackle and guidance needed to catch their own dinner.…
Restaurants & Bars
For summer drinks receptions try the roof terrace at W St Petersburg – its views over the dome of St Isaac’s cathedral are amazing. In colder months head for the easy luxury of the Grand Hotel Europe’s lobby bar for vodka-based winter warmers.
Popular restaurants include Ginza (laidback, high-end Japanese/Italian fusion – trust us) and Terrassa, but the jewel in the crown is L’Europe at the Grand Hotel Europe. It’s all imperial grandeur and Art Nouveau elegance – treat your group to dinner on a Friday evening for an unforgettable meal with live music and ballet.
Hotels
St Petersburg has some exceptional hotels, from grand, historic residences dripping in marble and gold to compact central hotels ideal for business visitors.
Our picks include:
- W St Petersburg: Minutes from the Winter Palace (now the Hermitage gallery) and the river, W St Petersburg is a sleek, comfortable contemporary hotel. The roof terrace restaurant offers unreal cityscape views.
- Grand Hotel Europe: A landmark hotel in St Petersburg, historic, luxurious and a favourite of Tchaikovsky, Dostoyevsky and others. In-house restaurant L'Europe is a dramatic setting for a memorable meal.
- Radisson SAS Hotel, St Petersburg: Ideal for St Petersburg incentives, the Radisson SAS Hotel is on the Nevsky Prospekt. Its design-led rooms and on-site health and fitness centre are excellent, and the Canelle Bar boasts views over the city – perfect for team drinks or a quiet nightcap.
